Video Poker for Australian Players

Video Poker is an entertaining online casino game which is based on five card draw poker. This game is really easy to play, but it helps to have an understanding of poker and the different poker wins. Microgaming and Playtech have both produced numerous video poker varieties and these games can be launched either instantly in your browser or from within a download client.

Most online video poker games are available in the real money mode and in the free play mode and you can also now find a growing number of mobile video pokers available. Australian players can experience approximately 60 different versions of video poker at most of today’s Microgaming powered casinos and Playtech has developed approximately 15 different video pokers. These games range from single hand video poker varieties to multihand video poker and there are several progressive jackpot video pokers also now available.

The aim of this game is really simple. You have to start by selecting your stake and then when you are ready you can start a new round by pressing ‘play’ or ‘draw’, or words to that effect. You will instantly be dealt five cards, all face up, and then you have the option of being able to try and improve your hand, but if you are satisfied with the hand that you have been dealt, you can continue without discarding any cards.

Most video poker games from Microgaming and Playtech will automatically hold winning hands in place for you, or they will hold certain cards that are most likely to bring in a win. The cards that you don’t hold will be discarded and then new ones will instantly be re-dealt to replace them. The prize that you can win will be based on how strong your hand is.

In video poker, the lowest winning hand is quite often a pair of tens or higher. This will not pay much, but this particular hand does seem to occur quite often. The next highest win is usually two pair (e.g. 4, 4, and Q, Q). The next highest win is 3-of-a-kind (e.g. J, J, J +? +?). The next highest win is a straight (e.g. 8, 9, 10, J, Q of any suit).

The next highest win is a flush (e.g. any five cards, must be the same suit). The next highest win is a full house (e.g. three of a kind and a pair – 7, 7, 7, K, K). The next highest win is 4-of-a-kind (5, 5, 5, 5, +?). Then there’s the Straight Flush (e.g. five cards in a row, same suit – 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 of hearts) and the highest possible winning hand in video poker is the famous Royal Flush (e.g. 10, J, Q, K and A of the same suit).
